Disconnected
My bags were packed, I had everything I needed, I checked and double checked and left Virginia confident I was the most prepared traveler that had ever trekked a journey. I arrived at JFK late last night and took the cab ride to my hotel, The Westin New York at Times Square, a beautiful grand hotel, yes it's a splurge but I got a real good deal online and aside from that I wanted one last good look at what I'm trying to walk away from. Maybe that makes no sense but it does to me. I made my way up to my room and decided I was going to blog, popped open my Macbook, turned it on and... nothing! Dead battery. I reached into my Macbook case for the charger and... nothing! I had left ALL of my chargers at home! Cell, Macbook, Blackberry. I spent my first morning in the Big Apple running around finding "juice" for my electronic devices. Lewis and Clark would be proud. My people watching was delayed, but I'm sure Central Park isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Bye Shasta....
I just dropped off Shasta with her foster family. They're wonderful people and I know she will be loved, Thank you to the Shirmer Family, Todd, Lacey and the lovely twins Tarah and Sarah. I know Shasta will be loved. Now a stop at Evergreen Burial Park to say bye to Mom and Dad before I head out on my adventure.
The Goal
As I approach three decades on God's Green Earth I find that I haven't learned quite as much as I had hoped in my life.
I spent my younger years with my nose buried in books at Virginia Tech and emerged with a M.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management and a MBA. Turns out what I learned was to cater to the worst in human nature and for that I am ashamed. Therefore I am taking my reaming "twenty-something" days and the beginning of my thirties to reassess my life.
I have saved a little bit of money and have decided to travel to the far corners of the earth, as far as I can get on my pennies and hopefully return to where I stand today a far better human than when my journey began. I know that the journey starts inside me and I won't lose sight of that and what better place to begin that Journey than in Jerusalem. I will blog about my travels, weekly I hope, I will also take time to read other's Blogs and hopefully learn from them as well. New York for one week and then I'm off to the city "Suspended between Heaven and Earth". -Beth
